SB Nation recently asked its NFL blogs to http://www.officialsteelersprosale.com/david-decastro-jerseys-c-1_27.html name its best “under-the-radar” defender. Of course under-the-radar means different things to different people. So we took it as a player having a really good year, but isn’t named DeMarcus Lawrence, Sean Lee, or David Irving. For various reason, those players are either known to the NFL public, or there is nothing about their game that is under-the-radar.
Four of BTB’s writers thought that Jourdan Lewis was the best candidate for the criteria. The third-round pick out of Michigan has been thrust into essentially a starting cornerback role. And he has thrived. Lewis is a rookie who is a little on the small size so it was thought he might be a “slot corner” only. That turned out to be wrong. He has great instincts as a corner and is a nice open-field tackler. He can match up with the biggest and speediest receivers like Julio Jones.
Lewis wasn’t the only candidate our writers brought up.
Maliek Collins - He hasn’t had the sack totals many thought he might have, but he has been disruptive in the backfield and since David Irving has returned, he appears to be turning it up a notch.
Tyrone Crawford - He’s been having a solid season, benefiting from Lawrence’s and Irving’s presence. He was falling out of favor with the http://www.authenticsteelerssales.com/landry-jones-jersey-c-1_28.html Cowboys fans because of his large contract and lack of production, but this season has been different.
Some other mentioned included Anthony Hitchens, Byron Jones and Orlando Scandrick.

Rating the five best and five worst offensive lines in the NFL
They seldom make the highlight packages. If http://www.js-lanhui.com/josh-jones-jersey-c-1_42.html you hear their name during a game, it’s usually because they’ve done something wrong. Yet they are the often overlooked element when it comes to the success or failure of NFL teams.
They are the offensive linemen, and although they're always essential, it's this time of the season when they can really create separation. As the weather turns colder, wetter and windier, teams frequently run the ball more, relying on their big men up front to set the tone and push open holes.
It's tricky to judge the effectiveness of an offensive line based solely on simple statistics such as sacks, yards per carry, rushing touchdowns and the like. There are so many factors and complexities — among them: What was the quarterback's role in that sack? Did a back miss his block? Who's carrying the ball? How good is the opposing defense at stopping the run? Several websites do a good job of drilling down on the stats, looking deeper into the numbers to assign a pecking order to the league's 32 offensive lines, but it's a nuanced science.
“In the end, the film is the most important thing,” said former NFL offensive lineman Geoff Schwartz, whose brother, Mitchell, plays right tackle for Kansas City. “You can use stats to confirm what you see on film, but it starts with the film.”
For the purposes of ranking the NFL's top five and bottom five offensive lines heading into the second half of the regular season, I turned to a trio of experts: Schwartz and offensive line consultant Duke Manyweather, who co-host the "Block Em' Up" podcast; and Hall of Fame tackle Jackie Slater, who played his entire 20-year career with the Rams and now coaches offensive line at Azusa Pacific.
"It's hard to assess offensive lines," Manyweather said. "There are people who get it and people who don't. A lot of people may not want to admit this, but even teams get it wrong a lot."
Now, a look at the five lines playing the best as of Week 10:
1. Philadelphia — When nine-time Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters went down with a season-ending knee injury last month, some observers saw it as the beginning of the end for the Eagles. That did not come to pass. At 8-1, Philadelphia has the best record in the league, and the cohesiveness of the offensive line has a lot to do with that. Slater’s stance: “You can’t overlook the play-calling and the decision-making of a talented young quarterback in Carson Wentz.”
2. New Orleans — The Saints have surrendered a league-low eight sacks, which is particularly impressive considering how much Drew Brees throws the ball. The left side of the line is particularly strong with Terron Armstead at tackle and Andrus Peat at guard, and rookie Ryan Ramczyk has found a home at right tackle. Slater’s stance: “Getting Armstead back was huge, and Brees is such a quick trigger man that it always helps the line.”
3. Dallas — The Cowboys have been the gold standard in terms of offensive line play the past few seasons, and they’re seeing a lot http://www.packersprosale.com/jahri-evans-jersey-c-1_39.html of eight-man boxes with defenses selling out to stop Ezekiel Elliott. With that back now suspended for six games, we’ll get a better idea of how much of that running game is him, and how much is the line. Slater’s stance: “Every bit of success Jerry Jones has had as an owner is partly due to his investment in his offensive line.”
4. Rams — In one year, the Rams have gone from having the NFL’s worst line to one of its best. The addition of left tackle Andrew Whitworth was huge — Manyweather calls him the team’s most valuable offensive player so far — and getting center John Sullivan was big too. But the whole line is rolling, and Jared Goff and Todd Gurley are surely grateful. Slater’s stance: “The stability in this unit, including putting young lineman Rob Havenstein back at right tackle, has been critical.”

FORMER Assistant Commissioner Paul http://www.canucksnhlproshop.com/igor-larionov-jersey-c-1_16.html Thompson yesterday raised concerns over the findings of an audit conducted into the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (RBDF), telling The Tribune he felt assurances offered by National Security Minister Marvin Dames were “premature”.
#Mr Thompson insisted concerns raised by Auditor General Terrence Bastian over weapons procurement were legitimate and could not be brushed off until a full audit of inventory is conducted and cross referenced with illegal guns found in the country.
#Mr Bastian’s audit report covers the period July 1, 2013 to June 30, 2015, and found that a 2014 procurement exercise posed a threat to the safety and security of Bahamian borders by awarding a $1.3m contract to a home-based company that did not have the necessary approvals to import weapons from the commissioner of police.
#The audit, tabled in the House of Assembly last week, also noted the “online purchasing/courier service” had been inactive for more than four years before it renewed its business licence just four months before receiving Cabinet approval on its bid; and the Customs Department could not locate two shipment entries in December 2014, and June 2015.
#In response to the report, Mr Dames told The Tribune he was not concerned about the procurement exercise as there were multiple layers of scrutiny surrounding weapons shipment. He said he was convinced there was no cause for alarm over the report after speaking with Commodore Tellis Bethel and Ministry of National Security Permanent Secretary Carl Smith. Mr Dames stressed despite the reported missing customs entries - there were no missing weapons.
#While there were no concerns over the integrity of the 2014 procurement process, Mr Dames said he has ordered a full review of all companies currently engaged with his ministry to ensure full compliance will all laws and policies.
#Yesterday, Mr Thompson said he found both the report’s findings and Mr Dames’ response “bothersome”.
#“The police are responsible for the licencing of firearms dealers and I cannot imagine why the police were not involved in this person and why the name or business is being kept so secret, I don’t see why that is,” the former police officer said.
#“How the person got a licence to deal with firearms without the knowledge of the police, I can’t understand.”
#Mr Thompson continued: “I’m also a bit set http://www.corsexe.com/jake-bischoff-c-1_23.html back, with all due respect to him, that the minister would try to make it seem that everything is all right. I don’t think everything is alright, we need to check to see if everything is all right.
#“First, we should determine how the dealer got the licence without due diligence from police. The next thing is what weapons, the entire list of weapons the company imported from suppliers overseas, we should identify those suppliers and check with them to find out what weapons they supplied since [company] has been nominated as the dealer for the country.
#“When we have done that, we should compare it with the inventory of weapons in possession of defence force and if there are weapons missing we could find out. The dealer can tell us what was sent here, if the RBDF don’t have it then they were sent elsewhere. We should also see if the weapons on the streets being brought in, whether they match.
#“When we do that investigation,” Mr Thompson said, “we can then satisfy ourselves that there is nothing to worry about.”

How's this for a final four: Wayne http://www.mushiku.com/65-andrew-shaw-jersey-c-1_46.html Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Bobby Orr and Teemu Selanne.
After four weeks of fan voting in the Greatest NHL Moments Presented by Coors Light and Pepsi Zero Sugar, the four Hockey Hall of Famers are the last ones standing entering the semifinal round.
The matchups are intriguing, with Gretzky scoring his 50th goal in his 39th game on Dec. 30, 1981, against Lemieux scoring five goals in five different ways on Dec. 31, 1988. The other semifinal has Bobby Orr's iconic overtime goal that won the Stanley Cup in 1970 against Teemu Selanne breaking the rookie goal-scoring mark with a hat trick on March 2, 1993, on his way to a 76-goal season.
The original bracket of 64 moments was determined by a blue-ribbon panel consisting of broadcasters from NHL national rightsholders NBC Sports Group, NHL Network, Sportsnet and TVA Sports.
Lemieux's moment defeated the Stastny brothers each scoring eight points in a game in the first round, Gretzky scoring his NHL-record 802nd goal in the second round, the New York Islanders winning their fourth straight Stanley Cup championship in the third round and Darryl Sittler's 10-point game in the fourth round.
Gretzky's road to the semifinal saw his moment defeat Martin St. Louis' goal in Game 6 of the 2004 Stanley Cup Final in the first round, Lemieux's spectacular goal in the 1991 Stanley Cup Final in the second round, Gretzky himself becoming the fastest player to 1,000 points in the third round and Orr becoming the first defenseman to score 100 points in a season (1969-70) in the fourth round.
Selanne, who was inducted into Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday, took out some big names along the way to the round of four. His moment defeated Sidney Crosby and Alex Ovechkin each scoring a hat trick in the same playoff game in 2009 in the first round, the Philadelphia Flyers' 35-game unbeaten streak in the second round, Ron Hextall becoming the first goalie to score a goal by shooting the puck into the net in the third round and Martin Brodeur becoming the all-time leader in wins by a goaltender in the fourth round.
Orr defeated Mud Bruneteau's winning goal in the sixth overtime of a 1936 playoff game in the first round, Steve Yzerman's double-overtime goal in Game 7 of the 1996 Western Conference Final, Joe Sakic handing the Stanley Cup to Ray Bourque after the Colorado Avalanche's Game 7 victory in 2001 in the third round and Gordie Howe becoming the first NHL player to 1,000 points in the fourth round.
To vote on the semifinal matchups, fans http://www.news4pal.com/rick-nash-jersey-c-1_18.html can visit NHL.com/GreatestMoments. They can also join the conversation using the hashtag #NHLGreatestMoments. The fans' choice for the Greatest NHL Moment will be announced during the 2017 Scotiabank NHL100 Classic between the Montreal Canadiens and Ottawa Senators at Lansdowne Park in Ottawa on Dec. 16.

Travis Green looking anything but in early days with Canucks: Cox
The bittersweet evolution of the http://www.officialblackhawkssale.com/connor-murphy-jersey-c-1_39.html Vancouver Canucks, 47 years in the making, has brought the hockey club to this very point, the point when the young boy from Castlegar, B.C., who used to cheer for Stan Smyl and Dave Babych and thrilled to the sight of Steve Bozek jogging down his hometown streets doing summer workouts is now in charge.
Travis Green is that boy from Castlegar. Born the same year the Canucks were, he is many things. The junior hockey star who by his own reckoning didn’t understand what it meant to be a good player. The young pro who as a Coyote and a Maple Leaf learned that he really liked to win. The apprenticing coach who turned down a quick return to the five-star hotels and first-class travel of the NHL because he wanted to be a head coach, not an assistant.
Now, as head coach of the Canucks, he is introducing a new sentiment to Vancouver hockey, a diverse, intense sporting culture that has never known a Stanley Cup championship, a culture that wanted a parade and got a riot instead.
Green is now here to straighten all this out, to make it all make sense after all that has happened. He’s not Mike Babcock, arriving in Toronto with Cup rings and Olympic gold medals. He’s not a “winner,” at least not yet, but he sure seems to have a pretty good idea how to become one.
The Canucks have been far more successful in the early part of this NHL season than anyone thought they’d be — fueled by encouraging signs from rookie Brock (Brocket) Boeser and shocking contributions from the likes of Derek Dorsett — and Green is the object of some fascination on the Lower Mainland.
If you knew him as a player, particularly through the first few hundred of his 970 NHL games, you’d be forgiven if you’re surprised he’s in this position at all. Green just never seemed the type, but now he’s like the hippie of the sixties who grew up, got married, got a mortgage, and now looks back at his youthful indiscretions with some chagrin.
“Looking back, I’m embarrassed about the player I was,” he says. “As I young guy, I didn’t know how to work, how to train. I just had a meeting with one of my players and I told him I scored 70 points in 69 games but I wasn’t a very good player. I was better player when I scored 10 goals.”
“I know this. Travis Green the head coach would pull his hair out over Travis Green the 20-year-old. And Travis Green the 20-year-old might not like the 46-year-old version very much.”
Green did score 25 goals one year with the Islanders, and repeated that as a Coyote. By the time he arrived in Toronto for the first of two stints as a Leaf, he was a grinding centre, often out there in the middle of trouble as part of a line with Darcy Tucker and Shayne Corson.
After a brief stint in the Swiss league, he was done as a player by 2008. He remembered the suggestion by one of his coaches in Toronto, Paul Maurice, that he might make a good coach. By 2012, he was behind the bench of the http://www.officialblackhawksshop.com/denis-savard-jersey-c-1_12.html WHL Portland Winterhawks in place of the suspended Mike Johnston, and guided the team to the Memorial Cup championship game.
“Mike taught me the art of coaching,” he says. “Preparation, running a practice, speaking to a team, putting a video session together, I learned all that from Mike.”
Then came four years in Utica, Vancouver’s farm club, which included turning down offers to go back to the NHL as an assistant. Last summer, after firing Willie Desjardins, the Canucks decided to give the job to the boy from Castlegar.
Green believed the Canucks needed to play faster, develop more depth and internal competition, and create more offence. To do that, he knew he needed to have a conversation with the Sedin twins. Specifically, Green needed to convince Daniel and Henrik to accept less ice time.
“I have always coached by being honest, putting your cards on the table,” he says. “I remember being nervous when it came time to talk to them. You do wonder how it’s going to be.

AVON LAKE, OH — The city of Avon http://www.officialmapleleafsshop.com/mats-sundin-jersey-c-1_3.html Lake is sponsoring neighbor-versus-neighbor competition this year. Namely, residents will be asked to battle it out for the title of best holiday lights and decoration display in the city.
Contemplating the competition, it's hard not to picture Clark Griswold (from National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation) turning his house into a low-watt sun with strings and strings (and strings and strings) of Christmas lights and plastic Santas and reindeer.
Luckily, the Avon Lake contest should involve less structural damage to home and more festive community building.
Here's how the competition will work.
First, both residents and local businesses will be able to take part in the contest. Second, interested participants will need to register with the Parks and Recreation Department. Don't worry, it's free to register. Registration can be completed here.
Then comes the fun part. Or the grueling labor, depending on how you look at it. But residents and business owners will need to construct a holiday display. Then take a picture of their work and submit it to the Avon Lake Parks and Recreation office by Dec. 10.
Voting will take place from Dec. 11 to Dec. 15. Pictures of the various displays will be posted on Facebook and each "like" that a photo gets will be counted as one vote. The display with the most "likes" will be declared the winner. Winners will be announced during the Holiday Lights Tour on Dec. 15.
To be considered for the contest, photos must include a name and address for participants. Photos will not be posted online until that information is provided. The longer a photo is posted online, the more time it has to accrue "likes."
Voting will begin Dec. 11 and end at noon on Dec. 15.
Photos can be submitted in one of three ways. First, submissions can be emailed to this address. nhaas@avonlake.org. Photos can also be http://www.officialnhlcanadiensshop.com/11-brendan-gallagher-jersey-c-1_2.html mailed or dropped off at the Avon Lake Recreation Department, 150 Avon Belden Rd.
Simplest of all, submission can be posted to the Avon Lake Parks and Rec Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/ALParksandRec/
Plus, the winning family will win more than bragging rights. The city said on its website there will be some kind of prize for the best decorative display.
Learn more about the contest by clicking here.

TORONTO. Venäläispelaajat ovat olleet suuressa arvossa jääkiekon synnyinmaassa Kanadassa erityisesti yksilötaitonsa ansiosta. http://www.officialnhlgoldenknightsshop.com/jake-bischoff-c-1_30.html Igor Larionov kuuluu Kanadassa ehdottomasti kaikkien aikojen arvostetuimpiin ja tunnetuimpiin venäläispelaajiin. Huipputaitava ja suurta älykkyyttä kaukalossa aina henkinyt Larionov aateloitiin Hockey Hall of Fameen kymmenen vuotta sitten.
Kanadassa "Professoriksi" nimetyllä Igor Larionovilla on suuri kunnioitus nyt aateloitua Teemu Selännettä ja hänen pitkää uraansa kohtaan.
– Hän oli "Finnish Flash", suomalainen salama. Siinä on heti päällimmäisin muistoni Teemu Selänteestä, Larionov muistelee hymyillen Yle Urheilulle.
– Hänellä oli suuri vaikutus NHL-jääkiekkoon. Teemulla on Jari Kurrin ohella ollut suomalaispelaajista suurin vaikutus NHL-jääkiekkoon. He pystyivät viemään pelaamisen toiselle tasolle, Larionov hehkuttaa.

Live Blog: Golden Knights face Canucks in crucial divisional matchup
When the Golden Knights raced out to http://www.seenamy.com/tyler-wong-c-1_3.html the best start by an expansion team in NHL history, they bought themselves a lot of leeway. Because of that 8-1-0 start, Vegas has remained in second place in the Pacific Division standings despite going 2-5-1 since.
Tonight the slack in the rope runs out, as a loss in Vancouver could send the Golden Knights tumbling from second to fourth in the division, with the opportunity to fall as low as sixth before their next game.
Vegas will start Maxime Lagace in goal. The rookie was pulled from Tuesday night’s 8-2 loss to the Edmonton Oilers after giving up seven goals on 29 shots. Lagace has a save percentage of .931 at T-Mobile Arena this season, but only .849 on the road.
Starting in goal for the Canucks is Jacob Markstrom, who has lost three of his last four starts and given up at least three goals in each of them.
It will be strength against strength tonight, as the Golden Knights’ No. 4 ranked offense (3.5 goals per game) goes up against the Canucks’ No. 5 ranked defense (2.6 goals per game).
Vegas should get an added offensive boost with Shea Theodore in the lineup in place of Jon Miller. Theodore has recorded only one assist http://www.goldenknightsproshops.com/keegan-kolesar-c-1_21.html in his three active games since being called up from the American Hockey League, but will likely play on the power play tonight and gives the Golden Knights an extra weapon on the blue line.

Ye Olde Time Hockey: 1996-2004 Detroit Red Wings en modern dynasti? (andra delen)
Deep in the Heart of Texas: Dallas Stars blev Stanley Cup mästare för första gången

Ed Willes: Golden Knights' rapid rise gets a big assist from modified expansion
Gerard Gallant, who has been through the http://www.groyse.com/brayden-mcnabb-c-1_24.html expansion tango once before, is acutely aware his experience with the Vegas Golden Knights is a tad different from his experience with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
Now, he can look down his bench and see bonafide NHLers — 30-goal scorers James Neal and Jonathan Marchessault, 20-goal scorers David Perron and Reilly Smith, top-four defenceman Nate Schmidt.
Then, as a Jackets’ assistant, he looked down the bench and saw a bunch of problems.
Now, despite losing their top three goalies to injuries, the Knights are in the mix in the Pacific Division and have the look of a team with legitimate playoff aspirations.
Then, the Jackets won 28 games which actually represented good news for the first-year team. The bad news? They would make the playoffs once over their first 12 seasons.
Now, Gallant can see a future with the Knights; a gleaming new rink just off the Vegas strip, engaged fans, boatloads of draft picks, including three in the top 15 and seven in the top 96 from this summer.
Then, Gallant would survive his first three years as an assistant with the Jackets. He wouldn’t survive his fourth as the team’s head coach.
“The (expansion) rules weren’t as good,” says Gallant, the Knights’ head coach in their inaugural voyage. “(In Columbus) we didn’t have as many talented players as we do now. We worked hard and competed every night. But it was third- and fourth-line players. It wasn’t the same as we’re seeing with our group.
“(The Knights) know they have a pretty good team. If they work hard, compete and play the way they’re supposed to play, they can compete with anybody. I think they really believe that.”
And they’re making others believe along the way.
If you ever have half an hour to kill, ask an NHL executive about the Knights’ expansion agreement, the inconceivable advantages granted the league’s newest team and the injustice of it all. The Knights, without putting too fine an edge on things, made out like bandits this summer, putting together a team that is competitive right away while assembling a treasure trove of future assets.
In addition to the take from this summer, there are two more second-rounders and two third-rounders coming in 2019 and two more second-rounders in 2020.
I mean, the Knights got former Wild first-rounder Alex Tuch for a third-rounder and NOT taking Marco Scandella or Matt Dumba in the expansion draft; for assuming David Clarkson’s contract and not selecting Josh Anderson, David Savard or Jack Johnson they got William Karlsson, a first-rounder and a second-rounder from Columbus; for taking goalie Marc-Andre Fleury from Pittsburgh, they got a second-rounder.
There was a lot of mumbling this summer http://www.hdyapim.com/artem-anisimov-jersey-c-1_47.html that Knights’ GM George McPhee had held up teams for ransom during the expansion process. Maybe you can understand that sentiment but Vegas did pay $500 million for its franchise and McPhee was following the rules.
It just looked so strange given the NHL’s past expansion history.
“I was watching the expansion draft and some of the deals and the guys we were able to get,” said Knights’ defenceman Deryk Engelland. “I couldn’t have imagined them pulling that stuff off.”
It speak volumes, in fact, that the Knights came to town Thursday for a meeting with the Canucks that had playoff implications in the Pacific Division. The Knights, who won eight of their first nine games, sat one point ahead of the Canucks, San Jose and Calgary and two ahead of Anaheim.
If Fleury can bounce back from his concussion — or if Malcolm Subban or Oscar Dansk can supply NHL-calibre goaltending — they should be there or thereabouts in March.

Dylan Ferguson’s storybook start at Rogers Arena was a non-starter.
When Vegas Golden Knights coach Gerard http://www.officialnhlcanadiensshop.com/bob-gainey-jersey-c-1_28.html Gallant announced after his team’s Thursday morning skate that Maxime Lagace was fit and would get the call in goal against the Vancouver Canucks in the evening, there were a couple of sighs of disappointment from media members.
Ferguson receiving the nod would have made for a story that would have written itself. The 19-year-old is an emergency call-up from the WHL’s Kamloops Blazers. He’s also a Lantzville native and Nanaimo minor hockey product.
He’s been with the big club since Oct. 31, when Oscar Dansk (lower body injury) became the third Vegas netminder to head to infirmary, following Marc-Andre Fleury (concussion) and Malcolm Subban (lower body). Ferguson made his NHL debut Tuesday, coming in for the final nine minutes against the Edmonton Oilers after Lagace was forced to leave with an injury.
Ferguson gave up a goal on two shots in an 8-2 Edmonton victory.
Lagace, it seems, is fine enough to play now. Gallant denied any thought to starting Ferguson against the Canucks.
“We wanted to make sure Max was OK,” said Gallant. “The other night we took him out late because he had some lower body cramps. He had a good practice yesterday and Max has played real well for us, giving us a chance to win.”
Subban is back skating with the Golden Knights and could seemingly be ready to play again soon, which would ship Ferguson back to Kamloops. He’ll remain the Vegas backup until then.
Gallant, of course, said Ferguson is better for the experience.
“He was all smiles, even after a tough loss,” Gallant said of Ferguson’s demeanour following the Edmonton game. “The kid was excited, He got into an NHL game.
“He’s been here for 2½ weeks, facing NHL shooters. That’s going to help him down the road.”
• Vancouver coach Travis Green didn’t mince words when he announced Thursday that winger Jake Virtanen would be a healthy scratch for a third consecutive game.
There was good buzz around Virtanen, 21, coming out of training camp, and he drew rave reviews earlier in the campaign in particular for his play alongside Henrik and Daniel Sedin. His last four games, though, have featured outings of just 6:19 and 7:19 minutes, respectively.
“I want to get him back in there, but part of development is understanding that sometimes you have to wait for your chance and I think this is one of those times,” said Green. “I’m not going to put Jake in just for the betterment of Jake.
“There’s a fine line between doing what’s right for an individual and doing what’s right for the team and there’s something to be said about lessons and learning them.”
• Vegas forward Brendan Leipsic and http://www.officialnhlgoldenknightsshop.com/james-neal-c-1_9.html Vancouver defenceman Derrick Pouliot were roommates for a time with the WHL’s Portland Winterhawks. They’ve stayed in close contacts through the years, Leipsic said.
Pouliot was the eighth overall draft pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2012 and was the CHL defenceman of the year in 2013-14. He had trouble catching on with the Penguins and was traded to Vancouver earlier this year. He’s seemed to fit in with the Canucks of late.
Green was part of the coaching staffs with those Winterhawk teams, too.
“Junior hockey went really well for a lot of us in Portland and it’s a jump (to the NHL),” said Leipsic, who was claimed in the expansion draft by the Golden Knights from the Toronto Maple Leafs, who had landed him in a Feb. 15, 2015 trade with the Nashville Predators.
“You might not get your opportunity right away. You might not take advantage of it. There’s a lot of variables. I’ve been grinding it out myself.
“It looks he’s found a home in Vancouver and he’s been playing well. I’m happy for him.”

With screenings of the last two major http://www.officialrangersshop.com/james-patrick-jersey-c-1_22.html contenders — Steven Spielberg’s journalism drama “The Post” and Paul Thomas Anderson’s suspenseful love story “Phantom Thread” — set to start in the next few days, the field will soon be set for the critics groups to begin weighing in with their picks.
Welcome to the Gold Standard, the newsletter from the Los Angeles Times that helps guide you through the ins and outs of the awards season leading up to the Oscars.
I'm Glenn Whipp, The Times' awards columnist and your newsletter host.
Early Oscar acting predictions
Circling back to “Phantom Thread” and “The Post,” we can, based on the filmmakers’ and actors’ track records, presume certain things. Meryl Streep playing Washington Post owner Katharine Graham and Tom Hanks portraying the paper’s editor Ben Bradlee in a Spielberg movie would seem likely to be part of any awards season conversation. Streep has won three Oscars; Hanks has two. They have 25 nominations between them, with Streep earning the lion’s share.
In the current political climate, you’re going be hearing a lot about this movie, which chronicles the decision to publish the confidential Pentagon Papers in 1971. The parallels between eras, with a U.S. president threatening a free press, are impossible to miss.
Meanwhile, as I write in an early stab at predicting the Oscar acting categories, it’s absolutely certain that Daniel Day-Lewis will earn a nomination for “Phantom Thread.” And I never make guesses about a movie I haven’t yet seen — unless it’s Day-Lewis, our greatest actor, working with a gifted filmmaker like Anderson. You can read my predictions here.
I enjoyed talking to Judi Dench a few weeks ago for an Envelope cover story, which you can read here. She’s every bit as lovely as you’d imagine, but also quite mischievous. I loved her interactions with Stephen Frears, who has directed her in five movies, including the current historical drama “Victoria & Abdul.” Frears is a famous grump, and Dench took great delight in playfully needling him whenever possible. http://www.seenamy.com/tomas-hyka-c-1_38.html Which isn’t to say that she doesn’t also adore him.
"He's monosyllabic, that one," Dench told me before Frears arrived. "It's like squeezing something out of a stone, like trying to understand another language." Like learning how to speak Frears? "Precisely. And once you learn to speak Frears, you're OK. You sense him. And you trust him too."

Her blir tilskuerantallet 9.700.
New York Rangers her i Norge.

Steven Stamkos leads Lightning past Stars, 6-1
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) Steven Stamkos had two goals and two assists, Andrei Vasilevskiy made 27 saves to beat mentor Ben Bishop, and the http://www.e666e.com/ron-greschner-jersey-c-1_26.html Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Dallas Stars 6-1 on Thursday night.
Vasilevskiy was Bishop’s backup in Tampa Bay for parts of three seasons until Bishop was dealt to Los Angeles last February. Bishop holds the Lightning career wins record with 131, while Vasilevskiy has gone 26-5-3 since taking over the starting role. It was Bishop’s first game against Tampa Bay since the trade.
Stamkos has 10 goals and an NHL-best 35 points after missing most of last season with a lateral meniscus tear. Mikhail Sergachev, Brayden Point, Jake Dotchin and Nikita Kucherov also scored for the Lightning, who have the NHL’s best record at 15-2-2.
Radek Faksa scored for Dallas, and Bishop stopped 22 shots.
COYOTES 5, CANADIENS 4
MONTREAL (AP) – Derek Stepan and Christian Fischer scored power-play goals in the third period and Arizona rallied to beat Montreal for its first regulation victory of the season.

Toronto star center Auston Matthews was on the ice for the optional morning skate, but sat out his fourth straight game with an upper-body injury.
ISLANDERS 6, HURRICANES 4
NEW YORK (AP) – Johnny Boychuk scored the tiebreaking goal on a slap shot with 4:25 remaining and New York rallied to beat Carolina.
Mathew Barzal had a goal and two assists, and Nick Leddy, Josh Bailey and Cal Clutterbuck each had a goal and an assist to help the Islanders remain one of two NHL teams without a regulation loss at home this season at 6-0-2. Jordan Eberle added an empty-netter, and Thomas Greiss finished with 28 saves.
Sebastian Aho, Elias Lindholm, Noah Hanafin and Derek Ryan scored for Carolina.
PENGUINS 3, SENATORS 1
OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) – Patric Hornqvist and Jake Guentzel each scored in the second period and Pittsburgh held on to beat Ottawa Senators on Thursday night.
Riley Sheahan added an empty-net goal, and Matt Murray made 21 saves.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored in the third http://www.eraneta.com/luca-sbisa-c-1_40.html period for Ottawa.
GOLDEN KNIGHTS 5, CANUCKS 2
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) – Erik Haula scored the go-ahead goal in the third period and Vegas beat Vancouver.
Haula, David Perron, Jonathan Marchessault and William Karlsson each had a goal and an assist, and Reilly Smith added an empty-netter. Vegas improved to 11-6-1 in its debut season. Maxime Lagace had 19 saves.
Brock Boeser and Bo Horvat scored for Vancouver. Jacob Markstrom made 25 stops.
The teams were sent to the locker rooms with under a minute left in the second period when a fan seated in one of the corners was hit in the head by an errant puck. One of the officials on the ice threw towels to nearby spectators to help with the bleeding, and the fan was eventually taken away on a stretcher.
There was no immediate update from the Canucks on the fan’s status.
JETS 3, FLYERS 2, SO
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) – Bryan Little scored the deciding goal in a shootout and Winnipeg rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat Philadelphia .

Vancouver Canucks game preview: Boeser hits the Jackpot
James Neal and local rookie Dylan http://www.goldenknightsprosale.com/keegan-kolesar-c-1_9.html Ferguson lead the charge against the Vancouver Canucks. The Golden Knights arrive to play their first regular season game at Rogers Arena. Here are the lineups, predictions and more.
Last week put a scare in Vancouver Canucks fans. Terrible losses to the Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks left us wondering if the team would be swept by all three California teams. In Tuesday’s game, the Canucks were down 2-0 early and it did not look pretty.
However, the Canucks fought back (literally in the case of Derek Dorsett), grinding out a 3-2 comeback win. Henrik Sedin scored and both revamped power play units cashed unit. Anders Nilsson returned to form after the two-goal deficit and the Canucks snatched a win they desperately needed.
Now, the Canucks need to shift focus as they prepare to face the Vegas Golden Knights at home. Today’s contest will be the Golden Knight’s first official visit to Rogers Arena after the Canucks lost 9-4 in a preseason contest to Vegas.
I had this whole storyline of two former Canucks making their return to Rogers Arena, but sadly, things have changed. Luca Sbisa is currently sidelined with an undisclosed injury and Jason Garrison has been waived by the Golden Knights.
Fortunately, this leaves the feel-good story of Dylan Ferguson in the spotlight. The 19-year-old native of Lantzville, B.C. (that’s on the Island for those that don’t know) is the fifth goaltender deployed this season by the Golden Knights. Maxime Lagace was pulled late in an 8-2 stomping by the Oilers and Ferguson had to fill in.
Later, we learned that Lagace was hurt. http://www.goldenknightsproshops.com/mikhail-grabovski-c-1_31.html While Malcolm Subban is close to returning, it looks like Ferguson will once again get the start against the team he grew up watching.
Again? Ferguson was in goal for the that preseason game mentioned earlier. However, this time, the Canucks will have all their starters against the Kamloops Blazers netminder. It will certainly be an exciting moment for him, especially considering what Irfaan Gafaar had learned:

Growing up in Detroit, I was a huge http://www.babewest.com/borje-salming-jersey-c-1_29.html hockey fan. After a long stretch of awful teams, the Red Wings got good, eventually leading to a string of Stanley Cup championships. It was a glorious time to be a Wings fan.
In that time there were certain players who annoyed the hell out of me, all of whom played for other teams. Few bothered me more than Chris Chelios, defenseman for the Chicago Blackhawks. He didn’t bother me because he was a cheap-shot artist, he bothered me because he was good. All the players on other teams annoyed me because they were good (why waste time worrying about bad players?).
Then, one day late in his career, the unthinkable happened – Chris Chelios was traded to the Red Wings.
Suddenly, though not unexpectedly, my hatred for Chelios switched to full-blown fandom. All the animosity I’d carried for years was not only gone, it was forgotten. He was my guy now.
This is common among sports fans – their star, hack, goon, utility infielder, quarterback, whatever, is their guy, and their guy can do no wrong, no matter how wrong their guy may be in any given circumstance.
This phenomenon was a small part of politics in the Clinton years. Now it has fully taken over both parties.
If you’re in someone’s “tribe,” they can do no wrong. Bill Clinton was infallible to Democrats. No matter the allegation, he was the victim. Even when proven to be a liar, his “transgressions” were excused.
We’re now living in a time where everyone is Bill Clinton.
I don’t know if Roy Moore or Al Franken are creepy perverts, but I believe them to be. I don’t care which party they belong to, I don’t think either belong in the Senate. But one is and the other soon may be.
No serious argument can be made to justify their service in government beyond, “They’re our guy!” You can like them all you want. They can be your team. But somewhere deep inside you know if the uniforms were reversed you’d be saying the exact opposite thing.
Roy Moore should withdraw from the race. He never should have been nominated – any judge who refuses a lawful order by a higher court has no business serving on the bench and surely does not deserve a promotion to the Senate. No one wants a Republican Senate more than I do, but I’m not willing to sell my soul to get it. Republicans need to earn their victories for who they are and what they stand for, not by simply not being the Democrat.
And Democrats need to accept the fact http://www.blackhawksnhlproshop.com/duncan-keith-jersey-c-1_22.html that some people who agree with them on the issues they care about can be complete hypocrites on those very issues. Al Franken has to go, not just not run again. The rules either matter and apply to everyone, or they don’t. Assaulting a woman matters or it doesn’t.
Situational ethics are not ethics, they’re…well, politics.
The $15 million-plus reportedly paid out by us, the taxpayers, to “make good” on the indiscretions, perversions, and flashing of subordinates on Capitol Hill is equally unacceptable. The perpetrators need to be exposed and removed.

Ottawa Senators Prepare For Rematch With The New York Rangers
The Ottawa Senators will be looking to http://www.canucksnhlproshop.com/igor-larionov-jersey-c-1_16.html right the ship as they take on the New York Rangers. This will be the first matchup between the two since the Eastern Conference Semi Final last season.
These two teams are heading in opposite directions as the Rangers have won seven of their last ten after winning just two of their first ten. The Ottawa Senators conversely are coming off a two game losing streak that includes a loss to the last place Arizona Coyotes. A win here would be amazing to the position of the Sens going forward.
Forward
The Sens will be going back to 12 forwards after their poor showing last night. They will be: Tom Pyatt, Matt Duchene, Bobby Ryan, Ryan Dzingel, Derick Brassard, Mark Stone, Mike Hoffman, Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Chris DiDomenico, Nick Paul, Nate Thompson, and Alex Burrows. This will be Paul’s first game since being recalled earlier in the week.
Defence
On defence the Sens will go back to six defencemen. Ben Harpur will be the healthy scratch with the other six players being: Fredrik Claesson, Erik Karlsson, Dion Phaneuf, Johnny Oduya, Mark Borowiecki, and Cody Ceci.
Goal
In goal the Sens will go back to Craig http://www.corsexe.com/jon-merrill-c-1_13.html Anderson after Condon played last night. It will be interesting to see if he can put up a solid performance after struggling this season.
